My background in teaching means I love working with organisations and technology that truly support this sector and champion the notion of education as a lifelong journey.

This case study is an overview of a UX passion project I completed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The use of EdTech during a time of rapid change

The challenge

Since 2020, the education sector has faced huge challenges with the necessity to transition to digital learning and teaching. During COVID, overwhelmed educators had to quickly pivot their classrooms and resources from in-person to online.

My role

To gain an understanding of how technology (if any) was used by teachers in the context of remote classrooms (including the use of digital resources and learning platforms), and to identify future opportunities.

My process

I wanted to understand how technology was being used by teachers in remote classrooms – including digital resources and learning platforms. So I went straight to the source: chatting to (and having many cups of coffee with) teachers I knew. My research phase also included countless interviews, observations, a survey and heuristic evaluation.

The result

I made it my mission to attempt to design a better product. I used Adobe XD to create a high fidelity prototype. Due to the remote situation, I had some challenges with conducting testing – (thanks COVID!). Rather than rushing the end result, I chose to return to the drawing board….literally. There were some other designs I’d like to mock up and test before continuing.
